A solid stand that locks into the saw. The stand has slots for tabs on the saw to slip into. However, setting the saw into the stand takes some practice because it’s hard to see the stand while holding the saw. Despite the elegant side-support system, full-size panel cutting is awkward to get started because the support arm attached to the fence is a smaller target for the corner of a large plywood sheet. Sophisticated and accurate fence. But the rack-and-pinion mechanism is hard to adjust if it’s whacked out of alignment.
Update. On April 30, 2008, the manufacturer announced a recall of approximately 13,000 DW744 tablesaws because the pivot bracket can separate, which can misalign the blade and cause kickback. The affected saws carry date codes 200715 through 200740. Owners of the affected saws can obtain a replacement from DeWalt. For more information, call 888-742-9168 or go to www.dewalt.com.

Shop Fox W1826
The thick, felted bag on this Shop Fox is a plus and a minus. On one hand, it makes the unit much less expensive than collectors with canister filters, and also lighter and easier to hang on the wall. Without a separate plastic bag to catch chips, however, they stay in the felt bag, and the shortish zipper on the bottom makes it tough to shake them out. Otherwise, the W1826 is an excellent value.
