This is my Split Top Roubo Bench based upon the Benchcrafted Plan. I made some slight modifications to the basic plan with regard to size. I used Ash with Bubingua accents. Leg Vise Chop and Tail Vise utilize Bubingua and Benchcrafted Hardware. I made the shelf out of Pecan. Finish is Tung Oil. Vise action is very smoth. Weight is about 350 lbs.

WoodRiver Wheel Marking Gauge No. 154340W
WoodRiver’s deluxe marking gauge is a good-quality disk-cutting gauge, but lacking the O-ring of the Veritas models, it was a tad fussier to set precisely. Also, the etched markings on the shaft were 1/32 in. off the actual distance between cutter and fence.
Especially considering the price, among the lowest of the bunch, the Ridgid R4222 has impressive adjustability. It has the largest crosscut capacity of all the saws. And the miter and bevel settings have the largest range of travel, and a bevy of detents. However, the power switch is clumsy, a bad design especially for lefties. The adjusters are either hard to use or hard to reach. Plus, its slider needs the most room out of any of the saws.
The Origin has a touch screen that controls a small trim type router motor with a 1⁄4-in. collet. The machine’s handles are comfortable, with an orange button on the left handle for retracting the cutter and a green button on the right that starts the cut and is the “Enter” button for various commands. It’s intuitive, doesn’t require dedicated space, and can provide lots of shortcuts to complete projects quicker and with less stress.
One of only two machines with a cutterhead perfectly parallel to its beds, the DeWalt 734 is a very good planer. Knife changes overall were straightforward, but access is difficult because you must remove a Phillips-head screw from under the dust shroud—not an easy task. The dust port on the back of the machine has a 2-1/2-in.-dia. opening but can be hooked up to a 4-in.-dia. hose. Connected to a dust collector, it did an excellent job gathering chips. And because the port exits to the left of the machine, the hose is never in the way of exiting boards. The top of the machine is flat, making it a good place to stack boards between passes.
Dimensions of my Bench are 72" x 30". The Bench is based on the 17th Century Roubo Woodworking Bench. I purchased the plans from Benchcrafted and modified them for my needs. You basically can use the center section (in the split) to help hold stock and hand plane boards against or you can flip the center section over and you have a flush top. Both actions of the leg and tail vise spin freely and clamp securely. I am happy you like it. Thank You
With its graceful curves, cabriole legs, and ornamental back splat, a Queen Anne side chair is a bucket list build for many woodworkers. Dan Faia had a very specific Queen…

Beautiful, handsome color contrast too and nice hardware.
Indeed a nice bench. Thanks for sharing. What are the dimensions? I've always been curious about this...why a split top?
