Craftsman Vanity

Three years ago or so we renovated the basement bathroom. Part of the reno was to build a vanity and a small cabinet to store bath stuff (soap, shampoo, etc). That was all done within the time frame set by the boss but I seemed to never be able to get to last item, an alcove. So we had a hole in the wall for three years. Now we don’t anymore and I can post pictures of the finished product.

Built in the craftsman style the vanity is made from birch veneer plywood and solid birch with a granite tile counter top. The small cabinet is solid maple, so is the mirror frame. The alcove is birch veneer plywood and solid maple. The finish on all pieces starts with a mix of Brown Walnut and Light Sheraton Mahogany aniline dyes (Lee Valley) to give the wood a fairly dark reddish-brown base. Then I applied Old Master’s Dark Walnut gel stain. Top coat is lacquer (nitrocellulose or water based depending on the piece).
