The clock is cherry with a redwood back piece. The works are a Hermle coil gong mechanical movement with a 54 cm pendulum. The clock case dimensions are based on the depth required for the movement and Chris Becksvoorts plan for a Shaker clock published in Fine Woodworking. Rabbit and Stop Rabbit Joinery was used for the case which is different than the publication. Mortis and tenon joinery was used for the doors. I researched the clock on line for various styles and decided on the solid lower door after I milled down a slab of cherry and realized what a beautiful pattern it had.  I've built 3 different style clocks so far and plan on one more...one for each of my children.  I thought adding the family name and the shamrock (family tradition) would make it an heirloom my children would enjoy keeping.
