mortising jig/moxon vise
I decided to make a mortising jig emulating Jeff MIller’s jig referenced above. Along the way the project morphed into a hybrid moxon vise and mortising jig. The jig incorporates Jeff’s slot in the back for the auxilliary fence to travel in while mortising. I decided to use two Jorgensen press screws rather than the hold down clamps Jeff used in his jig and make it a moxon jig as well. The press screws hold work pieces exceptionally securely with minimal clamping pressure. I also used the jig to rout a dado in the top to accomodate a t-track so that I could have easily adjustable stops for defining the mortise dimensions. The router is exceptionally stable riding on two different supports on opposite sides of the work. Thank you to Jeff Miller for the inspiration behind this jig. It feels like a keeper.
