Resurrecting a 1750 Wing Chair
This was an enjoyable but challenging project. Typical of a 270 year old chair, there were a number of earlier repairs, none of which were very artfully done. From broken mortise and tenons to a badly broken wing, most of the joinery had to be restored. The back legs were completely destroyed in the exodus from the truck. Fortunately, the beautifully carved front legs with ball and claw feet were undamaged. The chair now makes a nice addition to our living room, and my wife no longer threatens to haul the kindling off to the landfill.
