Nature against nature cabinet
Liquor cabinet in air-dried French White Oak and Cherry from Quercy. Actually, from my village.
Body assembled in hand-cut mitered dovetails. Footing in loose tenons. The Cherry doors are workshop-made 3-ply with an oak core to mitigate movement. Handles in Cocobolo.
Traditional piston drawer with half-blind hand-cut dovetails and sculpted handle. Tenoned and mortised frame and panel(s) back.
Solid brass pivot hinges and ball door-stops. Door facings are Rubio oiled. Back and edges are french polished. The inside is waxed except for the back panels which are french polished.
The thing I like about this piece is the contrast between the human nature and nature itself. The austere, squarish, ninety-obsessed, stained body and the free, curvy, live-edge, almost fractal-looking doors drawn by Nature herself.
Voilà.
