Small box
I made this small box to hold a knife, as a gift for my brother in law. The sides are mahogany, the lid is cherry, and the inlays are holly and ebony. The dimpled lid was made with the uki-bori technique.
I used a steel punch to dimple the lid, then planed off just enough to remove the dimples. Then I used a damp cloth and iron to raise the dimpled wood.
The sides are mitered, with inlaid cross pieces to help hold them together.
