Framed interlocking Credenza
A play with interlocking frames. The point originally was to create a piece that didn’t require glue and was completely interlocking. However, I don’t trust my 4 year old enough not to use glue. I figure in four years something worked loose. Also I got stuck on a nautical type mat on for the lower shelf.
The upper frames are mitered bridle joints and the the drawer dividers are mortised and tenoned. The frames are held in place and spaced with half lap spacers
The drawers are Jatoba fronts recessed to put in some curly maple strips I did in a chevron pattern. Drawer sides are also curly maple dove tailed together. Drawer bottoms are fiddleback anigre ply.
The sides are Jatoba with a rough tenon lacking a shoulder on the outside face slid into a rabbet in the the frames above. The curved stile is mortised in tenoned to the outside legs and through mortised on the balusters. That was fun hadn’t done that before. Too much time with sanding drums to fit, but I like the end product.
I was originally going to interlock the bottom shelf like the sides. But, I didn’t want the shelf protruding from the sides. Then I got stuck on a nautical mat motif. So, the rails the nautical mat shelf is on is mortised and tenoned in. However the shelf is alternating through dowels and screw and plugs, mainly bc my parallel clamps were too few and a hair short.
The finish is a Gregorian Cherry gel stain by General Finishes and a mixture of poly, tung oil and mineral spirits wiped on. I was a little timid on spraying this one. I just new i’d have overspray on every other surface, but I wiped off a hair too much stain too often. It did teach me a lesson about staining. I’ll be moment before that many inside corners are visible again. I’ve never sanded or stained for that long before.
Im really happy though and impressed I pushed myself a hair further and even more glad it’s no longer nagging me in my sketchbook. But the sketchbook needs to quit calling, there’s a segmented walnut sphere nest chair that called after and I may burn the sketchbook

Nicely done! I appreciate the self-review, none of my projects are identical to my original thoughts.
