This coffee table / sitting bench was designed to be built in the workshop of a woodworking school. I wanted it to be interesting and eye catching enough to attract the students’ attention. The Cantalever slab with four through tennons exposing is what makes the design unique. The joinery involved that I modified is called “Fist Tennon with Bridal Half Lap Joint,” which can hold well over two tons before the joinery breaks; this means the slab will break in half before the joinery fails. Besides the complexity and details of the joinery, it is beneficial to learn how to utilize it for its qualities and features.
