Cutting Board Gouge & Flattener
This jig is used in conjunction with a juice groove template to gouge out and flatten the middle of a cutting board to create a larger reservoir. It can also be used to flatten a cutting board or other stock with a router. The fences below are adjustable and bump up against the edge of the template to limit router’s travel. I used a 1″ straight bit lowering it about 1/32″ to 1/16″ per pass. The final pass is very light to eliminate any defects. The juice groove was cut with a 3/4″ rounded bit and a guide bushing. Again taking light passes. Both operations kick up a lot of fine dust so good protection and dust collection are essential.
