Antique Cypress Trestle Table
I made this table for a breakfast table in 2009 from Cypress & Poplar. The cypress was recovered by a friend from an old Catholic Church that tragically burned in the ’70’s. He was a deacon at the church, and had it laying behind his house since then thinking he would make something with it one day. A lot of the wood was in pretty bad shape, but I had just enough usuable material.
The Top is finished with Oil & Wax. This was my 1st Table, and my 1st time using Milk Paint. General Finishes (Bayberry Green, Brick Red & Lamp Black) Paint and their Top Coat. Awesome Stuff!!! Easy to apply and very happy with the result.
The photos don’t really do it justice. Just finished reading the FWW article on photographing your work. Can’t wait to try out what I’ve learned!

Great looking table. I'm intrigued by the joinery picture. Can you give more details, explanation?
Thanks for the comment. The picture is of the top of a leg post. After turning the legs, I used a saddle joint to attach the top cap (and foot) to each leg post. After those joints set up, I then used a dovetail joint to attach the top stretcher to each assembled leg post - cutting the dovetail through both the post & cap.
For the bottom stretcher(not pictured), I used a double mortise & tenon on end. Again, the tenon extended through the post and foot, locking everything into place.
If you have more questions please let me know.
