This is very handy for cutting a number of crosscuts the same length, using the rip fence safely. The block prevents kickback. It is utterly indispensable for cutting pieces for segmented turning where you cut hundreds of little pieces. The jig is made of a piece of hardwood plus two clamps (from Rockler) which fit into two holes drilled in the block. If you mill the wood block exactly 1 inch thick, then your rip fence gauge reads accurately; just subtract an inch, and, as set up in the photograph, you will cut a piece 1-1/8 inches long. You wanted simple; this is it. . . Of course you can do this with any wood scrap and a small clamp. But then you don’t know the exact width of the scrap, and the clamp is always in the way. . .

Craftsman Random Orbit Sander
While this sander is among the least expensive models in the test, its performance ranks among the best. The stock removal was excellent, and dust collection was solid when used with a vacuum. It handles really smoothly, too, and has a tall body that fit my hand nicely whether I was holding it from above or around the waist.
This saw performs well and the ergonomics are good. I appreciated the easily accessed controls and nice, ambidextrous handle. The Grizzly employs two lights, a laser to guide the cut and an LED to illuminate the cutting surface. The visibility is good, although the LED does not cast a shadow, it just lights up the cutting area. The miter range and number of detents are nice. However, the bevel range extends to only 45° on each side and has no positive stops. The saw requires a good deal of clearance from the wall, which, like similar models, may make it tricky for smaller shops.
