My father is starting to explore wood working further, and needs a source for supplies. He could order on line, but I think he feels more comfortable checking things out first hand. There does not appear to be a Woodcraft or Rockler near by. Does anyone live in the area, and if so, where do you shop for tools and supplies? The largest towns nearby would be Scranton PA, Wilkes-Barre PA, or Binghamton NY. Thanks.

Grizzly is in Muncy PA.
Scott
I think that's a little far for him, but I'm sure he'd love it.
Hello TJ,
Have you tried going to the websites for those different companies? They have a store locator page for your convenience. As the other post mentions Grizzly is in Muncy, they sell more than just machines. It is a tool junkies heaven worth checking out.
I just did a quick check, the closest Rockeler to you is Buffalo, NY. The closest Woodcrafts are Rodchester, NY and Harrisburg, PA. Roadtrip time I guess. I use the Woodcraft in HBG. They are good people there, the store gots lotsa stuff in it.
I hope I've been some help for ya.
Goodday,
Chris.
Thanks. Where is HBG?
Sorry, HBG is Harrisburg our state capitol. About 2 1/2 hours straight down Rte 15 from you. Jump onto Rte 322 East when you get there and go to Rte 81 East until you get to Rte 83 South. A couple of miles south on 83 you come to the Eisenhower Interchange (the 'Ike"), it's where 322,83,and283 come together. Make no turns you will be on Rte 283 South and Woodcraft is off the first exit "Swatara". Stay to your right on the exit and you will see the store between a Sunoco station and a Bob Evans, I think there's a Hilton or Wynndamm hotel beside Bob Evans.
I used to work with Jack's (the owner) brother. His son Dan Melhorn works there too. Dan Bodan is another fixture there, He's very knowledgeable on any thing woodworking. In fact they all are, even the women that work there. All a bunch of good people, they'll treat ya right.
Chris.

Thanks so much Chris. As I said, it's my dad that lives there. I'm in North Carolina. I'll pass it on.
Oh oops, I didn't realize that.
What part of North Carolina do you live in? I have a good friend who lives around Kenton(sp?). I have an Aunt who lives in Bravard. Being a union electrician I get around the country and have worked with many a fine feller from your state.
Take care,
Chris.
my experience with Harrisburg is the opposite. went in there and (I'm a woman) was ignored by the men, was helped by one woman. Not a friendly group. Been in Woodcrafts in CA and MD and not thrilled about the Harrisburg store. Sorry. just my experience.
No need to say sorry, it's not like I own the place, Ifin I did you would get a $100 gift card and they would get a swift kick in the glutemous maximus.
Unfortunately, I guess a store can't everything to everybody but they sure should try.
I'm guessin you live somewhere in south central PA?
Goodday, Chris.
Yes, chris, I am actually south of York. I'm kind of equidistand between the woodcraft in Towson and the one in Harrisburg. A friend works at the Harrisburg store and I had only been there a couple times, with a not so great reception both times. However, I thought I'd try it again. Oh, well, it's not like I work with them! and I don't think the entire store is like that, I just hit a few bad apples.
Well, if you go there and you get poor service you can always remind them that an email to the main office about your experience may happen. I would bet they'd even carry your packages to car and put them in the trunk, or, talk to your friend about your findings. I hope things can work in your favor.
Anyhow, I live about 13 miles north of Gettysburg in the hills. Howdy neighbor.
Goodday, Chris.
Use to live in Sayre, PA and there is a place on NY434 just outside of Owego, NY. I think it is Williams. I use to go to a place in Troy, PA but can't remember the name and they had a good selection of wood.

I don't know if it is any closer or not to your Dad but there is also a Woodcraft in Allentown as well.
Christopher
I am close to Montrose and I am not aware of any true woodworking stores in the area. You can find some hardware stores that might have a good selection of some common items, but you won't find the selection that he can get at Woodcraft or Rockler. As mentioned above, Grizley is in Muncy, only a little over an hour from Montrose and its well worth the drive if he is in to power tools. Otherwise, it looks like HD or Lowes in Scranton.
Thank you! That's what I needed to know.
