I am still working on this writing box for my mom.
My question is this:
Do I want to join the sides of the case before or after I cut the top and bottom seperate.
if you are unfamiliar with a writing desk check out http://www.hygra.com/wb/wbcr35.htm
I have made boxes with standard opening (parallel w/ top and bottom) and cut them open after having put everything together. but this time there is a slope. so that when the box opens and is turned around it slopes towards the writer. I was wondering which way is safer, smarter or recommended in this case.

Glossy,
My suggestion would be to cut the box apart after assembly. Use a sharp finetoothed hand saw, and clean upthe mating surfaces with a plane after you get it apart. My priority would be in having the two halves match , even if the glue-up ends up being a bit out of square. More difficult to assemble two boxes and have them come out the same, IMO.

Thanks it sounds good to me and that was sorta my thoughts too.
anyother opinions are still welcome!I still got three good fingers! I'm gonna go build something!
As you've built before, the method is basically the same; cut after assembly. But with an angle that may be hard to track, I'd use a bandsaw on a tilt, and clean up with a handplane.
