Hi Will,
The other day I went to visit the sawyer and there was this stack of 9/4 x 7″ x 12′ planks of some of the nicest ash I’ve seen in quite some time. He gave me the name of the owner and here’s what I managed to get from him. Cost me $125 for the long sticks – he gave me the short ones.
There’s a little over 100 bf in the longs and not sure how much in the shorts – no pun intended. There’s also a few short sticks of rock maple in there too.
When I picked up my ash the owner showed me a pile of logs he has had stacked since last spring. It’s a mix of yellow birch, maple and cherry. I’ll bet dollars to donuts there’s some REAL NICE wood in them logs too – think curly.
I flooded the pickup on the way home – thinking/drooling about the wood in back and that pile of logs.

You know, Bob, I like you -- I really do! But sometimes, I have to say, you really rot :-)
Good score on the ash! It just happens to be my favorite hard wood. FWIW, those shorts are THE perfect size for an electric guitar body, and ash is a smokin' good tone wood. I know what I'd be doing with them...

Oh, and does the garage ever smell oh soooooooooooooooooo nice!
:-)
OK, enuf gloating over here. The shorts are about 2' long x 9/4 thick x 7" wide. I won't need all of them...................... I was thinking they would, with some milling, make good leg stock or maybe stiles and rails? Some of the longs are planned for - nice exposed beams for the house. Wife wants to expand the living room, a hall butler, the list goes on.
I'd really like to see a stick made into a geetar!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! You can dream about what you want to build with it, but if the wifey has other ideas -- I know what you'll be doing with that wood!
Great haul at a good price. Intwix now and SHMBO, you can relax and envision great things. As for the shorts - drawer sides and bottoms for the queen?
Now about that hall butler, have you checked with the upstairs maid?
Nice ASH!!! why don't you just keep that truck loaded and come up to my place. Lots of garden benches in those shorts. Hint. Fishing season just opened and we could beat up some walleye and make a lataxe to north American english dictionary.
My friend... You are a hoot! I just love a piece of ASH!
It is a wonderful wood to work with. Especially for archery bows..
And a song I just love for you
