Help!!
I’m finishing a lot of oak trim pieces for my home. I first applied 2 coats of Minwax Natural stain to the oak. It has dried for about a week. I sanded the wood this morning and wiped it off with a tack cloth. I than applied a coat of Minwax satin Poly. As the poly was drying it started showing white splotches all over the wood. Not all of the wood did this though. The temp. this am. is about 84 degrees. I don’t know if that even has anything to do with the problem. Does anyone have any thoughts, solutions, what to do next? Thanx

Is this new oak -- or old stuff that you stripped and are now finishing?

This is in new oak. Never been stained or finished.
Well, that shoots down my theory.I figured that if the material had been stripped, perhaps here and there the stripper had not been completely neutralized, and was coming through as white spots. Nonetheless, some kind of contamination seems to be the leading contender as a cause. And since the spots don't appear on every board (implying something is awry with the poly), that argues that maybe the boards were splattered with something or other prior to the finishing process. This could have happened even before they came to you. I'm assuming there was nothing visible (spots) to you before you started finishing. So,a couple of other questions:*** Did you sand the boards, and clean them up prior to staining? What process did you use?*** Was there any spotting after you stained them, but before you applied the poly?*** Do the original spots remain even after a second or third coat of poly? Are there any new spots?*** Do you have any other brand of poly that you could use (instead of the Minwax) for the second coat? I've used Minwax poly on occasion without any problems, but there have been past threads around here where various people have had difficulties with the product (but I can't remember what the specific problems were).********************************************************

Sorry to hear your parrot has gotten white spots
Usually pigeons are the cause. My car seems to attract those feathered rats.
There's a productto remove them, (sold in stationary stores for typists) , but I,ve forgotten the brand name. Steinmetz
