I’ve got a benchtop planer, which is a real pain to use for planing when the use is “more than occasional”. I’m thinking of moving up to a stationary model. Price is a concern.
Does anyone have feedback on the Grizzly 15″ planer model #G0551? It’s 3 HP, and appears to have the same specs as a similar Grizzly 15″ planer (model #G1021Z) which is $275 more. The G0551 goes for $675.
I typically don’t plane anything this wide, and have a Woodmaster wide drum sander which I use for such things as planing a door (abrasive planing).
My use isn’t commercial and I’m looking to see if this planer would be “reasonable” in terms of price/performance.

I don't have any recommendations about one planer over another but where money is a concern, you might want to look at the eBay auctions. There are usually several stationary planers just waiting for a new owner.
My only Grizzly is a 15" band saw, which I'm happy with.
