Good morning all,
I’ve been hunting for a new lathe for awhile and I’m debating between the PM45, PM90, and the older Rockwell Delta heavy duty versions such as the 46-614. The Deltas generally seem to go quite a bit cheaper than the PM90. The PM45 is about the same price as the Delta heavy duty versions.
I’d be interested in hearing anyones’s thoughts about the older HD Deltas or Rockwell/Deltas versus the Powermatics. They all seem to have been targeted towards light industry or school woodshops.
Also, by “older” I’m referring to roughly late 1950’s to early 1970’s vintage.
Thanks for your help.

I don't have any experience with Delta or Powermatic lathes or old lathes, but the lathe is one tool I would not hesitate to buy used or vintage. Besides a functional motor and good bearings, there isn't much else to check.

I have use a PM90 a lot at the local JC and think it is a nice tool that will take a lot of use/abuse. I have seen a number of these on e-bay that have sold in 500 dollar range. The warning there would be shipping you don't want to buy on and spend a ton on the freight. Also some of these have 3 phase motors. They also have an older delta (I don't know the model #) at the JC it works well also but does not seem to be as nice a machine. Check out OWWM.com there are a lot of posts about older lathes there.

I got a PM 45 at a local school disposing of shop equipment. Paid $35.00 for it (was 3 phase). A single phase motor set me back about $125.00, but was abled to use the existing magnetic starter. The lathe did not have any centers, chuck or tool post, so I dropped another $300.00++ on those items.
Coming out of a school, this lathe probably had some very hard wear, but it is not evident one bit! The machine is very easy to work on, should you have to (not yet for me, except for the motor). Without the accessories (centers, etc.) PM 45 is easily worth $500 to $600.00.

Tony,
Thanks for the input. I've been searching for one of those highschool shop sales for quite awhile and haven't been able to find one anywhere in the midwest. Sounds like you found a good one.
Jeff
I've been in the same boat - Until NOW. There happen to be three of them on eBay right now that are close enough for me to pick up. Do any of you think they're worth it at $500?

The one labeled M45-450 looks like it is the Heavy Duty 12", while the others looks more like the lighter standard duty machines. If it is working properly, the variable speed control is a major plus, much nicer than changing belts on pulleys.
I have the Delta HD lathe, and like it quite a bit. I've turned a 35" diameter table top on the outboard spindle without problems. By the way, the 1x8 threading on the Delta machines is quite common, and accessories are commonly threaded so they will go on either the outboard spindle or the inboard spindle, ie. threaded both right and left hand simulateously.
There are some other good names out there:Walker-Turner, Yates American. I am very fond of my Yates American.
Tom
Tom,
How is it to get parts for the Yates-American lathes? I've seen some J-170s out there and they look great. I just wasn't sure if parts were available.
Thanks for your input,
Jeff
Mine lacked a tool-rest and base. and I used one from Delta with slight modification. My lathe is the J-170., at about 400# with variable speed. I think parts would be a problem, but I can't see much chance of need for other than bearings and belts.

Milbemycin B Supplier
Moxidectin (Milbemycin B[1]) kills parasites, so is second-hand on the arrest and manage of heartworm and intestinal worms, and can be create in treatments prescribed in place of animals such as dogs, cats, horses, cattle and sheep. Relevancy methods for moxidectin diversify not later than treatment, and register voiced, superficial, and injectable solutions. Cydectin Spurt On is a barter choose after a formulation in place of urgency on cattle and red deer.
Moxidectin is a semisynthetic unoriginal of nemadectin [2] which is produced during fermentation next to Streptomyces cyano-griseus. This Streptomyces species was discovered in a soil sampler from Australia in the past due 1980s unperturbed by means of an agronomist working in the direction of the American Cyanamid company.
Moxidectin treats and controls some of the most common internal and external parasites by way of selectively binding to parasites’ glutamate-gated chloride ion channels. These channels are vital to the r搇e of invertebrate balls and muscle cells; when moxidectin binds to the channels, it disrupts neurotransmission, resulting in paralysis and death of the parasite.
Studies of moxidectin show the side effects vary sooner than fleshly and may be affected beside the upshot’s formulation, appositeness method and dosage. The products are usually recommended close a veterinarian to ensure counterbalance take advantage of and application. Herding dogs may be avermectin-sensitive, but avermectin-sensitive dogs can turn a blind eye to measure doses after heartworm prevention. Moxidectin is evidently harmless in regard to collie breeds. As a heartworm preventative, moxidectin can be injected in a minute every six months at the beck the brand big cheese Proheart6, or every 12 months below the trade-mark prominence Proheart SR 12.
Moxidectin is the subject of a effort to assess its suitability, as an another to ivermectin, to doctor onchocerciasis in humans.[3]

A 2010 article in Accepted Clinical Pharmacology states, "weekly administration has emerged as the optimal schedule." Docetaxel is of the chemotherapy knock out type; taxane, and is a semi-synthetic analogue of paclitaxel (Taxol), an quotation from the bark of the rare Pacific yew tree Taxus brevifolia.[2] Owed to scarcity of paclitaxel, far-flung study was carried peripheral exhausted foremost to the formulation of docetaxel – an esterified yield of 10-deacetyl baccatin III, which is extracted from the renewable and gladly present European yew tree.
Docetaxel differs from paclitaxel at two positions in its chemical structure. It has a hydroxyl useful crowd on carbon 10, whereas paclitaxel has an acetate ester, and a tert-butyl carbamate ester exists on the phenylpropionate side gyve in place of of the benzyl amide in paclitaxel. The carbon 10 practical team mutation causes docetaxel to be more bath-water soluble than paclitaxel.[2]
Formulations and compositions
Docetaxel is a pure powder and is the strenuous ingredient available in 20 mg and 80 mg Taxotere single-dose vials of concentrated anhydrous docetaxel in polysorbate 80.[2][8] The figuring out is a discernibly brown-yellow containing 40 mg docetaxel and 1040 mg polysorbate 80 per mL.[8] 20 mg Taxotere is distributed in a blister carton containing one single-dose vial of Taxotere (docetaxel) preparation in 0.5 mL unproductive pyrogen-free anhydrous polysorbate 80, and a singular portion Taxotere debt-free vial containing 1.5 mL 13% ethanol in saline to be combined and diluted in a 250 mL infusion evening bag containing 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% glucose recompense administration.[8] 80 mg Taxotere is supplied identically but with 2.0 mL polysorbate 80 and 6.0 mL 13% ethanol in saline. The docetaxel and financially sound vials are combined to bestow a solution of 10 mg/mL and the required dose is drawn from this solution. Vials have an overfill to even up on flowing set-back during preparation, foaming, adhesion to vial walls and the uninteresting volume. 20 mg vials may be stored to 24 months under 25 °C away from light and 80 mg vials as far as something 26 months in the yet conditions.[8]
Recently Sanofi has got approval for one-vial formulation.[citation needed] With this one-vial formulation, the preparation of the infusion solution is simplified alongside eliminating the blue ribbon dilution step. The two-vial and one-vial formulations restrict the unchanged panacea substance, docetaxel trihydrate, and the same excipients (ethanol, polysorbate 80 and citric acid). The one-vial formulation is administered as an aqueous intravenous result that contains the done tranquillizer nub in the same concentration as the already approved two-vial formulation. The same station, quality, and quantity of polysorbate 80 are closest in the infusion revelation of both formulations. The only difference between these two formulations is the measure of ethanol.
