I’m very interested in finding an apprenticeship or similar position with the possibility for learning, but I’m at a loss as to how to start the process. I’m an amateur woodworker and I have no connections in the professional woodworking world, and few opportunities to form any, because of my current working and living situation. I have found so few places that have websites and I’m worried no one is hiring, I’m looking for suggestions, or help, or any information that might be useful really!
thanks!!

I was lucky. When I started in the trade I joined the United Britherhood of Carpenters as a cabinetmaking apprentice. But I was the first woman so I had my trials, too. Yes, the economy is horrible for the building trades. Have you thought about offering yourself as an intern to a cabinetmaker...for no pay? I don't even know if that would work because of liability issues.
Thinking outside the box, maybe you could consider moving to a location where there is more building being done. I've heard Montana and South Dakota are booming. What about Texas?
