My house is a very typical 1983 ranch in Phoenix. The cabinets and their hinges are the same throughout the house. The hinges need to be replaced.
The hinges contain some springs and internal plastic parts as part of the “self closing” mechanism. The plastic fails and launches shrapnel across the room. The pins are getting sloppy in the heavily used areas. The hinges are your typical stamped steel for overlay doors.
The problem is that the hinge selection at Home D… all have a slightly different screw hole pattern. Most of the holes are offset by about 1/2 screw diameter.
I tried replacing a handful of them in the laundry room and it was a huge chore. Had to fill all the existing screw holes and redrill. This of course while leaning over the washer and dryer. I definitely don’t want to do that exercise again for the rest of the house.
Did hinges standardize after mine were made? Is there something I can measure on mine that will define what they are? No markings on mine that I can find. Any suggestions on identifying their maker? And the $64,000 question – where should I go to find a match?
Thanks in advance for you help.

dch ,
I would start by looking in an Amerock catalog to see if you can i d the model , then check to see if they can be ordered . Amerock co. made the majority of those types in those days at least here in the West .
Check with a local cabinet shop , perhaps they can help you find them or could even have them on hand .
good luck dusty

Help identifying cabinet hinge manufacturer
I am resusitating this ancient post. Seems I will be selling our house so the replacement of the hinges can't be put off any longer! I am wanting to replace with the same hinge because the cabinetry was stained with the hinges in place. If I put on anything with a different profile it will stick out like a sore thumb.
I looked through several manufacturer's online catalogs and have not seen a profile yet that matches. (Including Amerock, Hardwarehut, Rockler)
I have attached some pictures in hopes someone will recognize. The only marking seems to be the stamped triangle. Can't find numbers or other markings anywhere. The face screw holes measure 2-1/8 center to center.
Thanks, Daen
Coming unhinged
Based on the apparent style of manufacturing, my guess would be the subdivider got a really good deal on thousands of them, and that the manufacturer has since gone out of business.
Another option would be to find a style that will cover where the current hinges are mounted, thus hiding the unstained areas. In other words, replacing them all may be your only option. Or, you could replace the cabinets, which is probably what your realtor would suggest.
Replace the hinges and fill the old holes
Replace the old hinges and fill the old holes with a wood match stick. Move the hinge in ward up and down sand, fill then sand again and repaint the cabinet face frames and doors if needed. You are moving so painting "light color like white" is of the best choice and the cabinets will look great. It will help sell the house. while your at it paint the walls and ceiling as well.
Thanks for the comments guys. Cabinets are stained. Painting them would definitely look out of place with the rest of the home's woodwork...
Spent some time at Home D and Lowes. There are several hinges that are similar in style. A few have the same hole spacing on the case side of the hinge. Not so worried about the back side of the door. But NONE of them had an escuchion as large as my current hinge - which translates to can't cover up the unstained area.
Headed to a large cabinet shop in the area to see if they can be of any help.
