Wow, thanks for all of the replies on my questions about finishing Walnut for my kitchen cabinets. It is great to have a site like this with so much support and suggestions. I live in Florida and Walnut where I live costs an arm and a leg. I was up in Indiana fishing with my buddy when we went past a farm with a large barn converted to a woodmill. The owner had a huge bandsaw that must have been 50 years old. He showed me some Walnut on a back rack all near 13′” wide and straight as a rail. The price was right so I trucked it back to Florida. The $50,000 question is……..WHAT TYPE OF WALNUT IS THIS? I DID NOT THINK TO ASK THE OWNER. Is there a way to tell? Is there a reference guide with pictures anyone could suggest? I just planed it today and have it stick stacked while I build the cases. What is the difference between the black and the rest?
