What should I build my Medicen cabinet o
I am building a medicine cabinet for myself. The face frame and door will be maple painted white. What should I use for the box? I would like something clean on the inside, it would be nice to avoid painting the inside. I have some scraps of prefinished maple plywood I thought of using but that might look funny when you open it. I thought about Melamine but that means Particle board and Id rather not. Any thoughts?
Thanks

i used corian for my med. cabinet box , a freind of mine works in a big cabinet shop and they scrap left overs all the time.
i used a bone color and made the top, bottom, two sides and the back out of corian. i put the sides, and top and bottom together with screws then screwed the back onto them with sheet metel screws. i pre drilled the back bigger than the screws and then drill the pilot holes just barely big enough to catch a little thread
if you drill your pilot holes to small you will crack the corian
i then drilled pocket holes with a kreg pocket hole jig set up for 1/2" around the sides, top and bottom and attached a cherry face frame and a cherry door
then i drilled 1/4" shelf holes in the sides where i wanted the shelves and installed chrome shelf pins and used 1/4" glass for shelves. i had the shelves cut at a local glass shop and had the front edge polished.
you can buy scrap solid surface at a local cabinet shop or at solidsurface.com and other on line stores
good luck.................nicko
I thought you could mold the corian together without using fasteners or glue. I have a friend who has done a little work with corian.
you can and do for most applications but at the time i did not have the special epoxy dispenser and did not want to spend the money for the color matched epoxy.
also i did not want to deal with the squeeze out of epoxy on the inside corners of the cabinet box. for what it was, a simple box it was easier for me to just screw it together.
mine was recessed into the wall so i did not have to worry about the screws showing.
if yours is not recessed you could just glue the sides and top and bottom together with some store bought epoxy and screw the back on.
it really is a good alternative to melamine and it looks nice.

I have been quite immpressed with the stuff from what I have seen in the stores. I will consider it for a new kitchen the wife wants. That's when and if the ship comes in.

Thanks Niko, I think I decided on just building the whole thing out of Maple and then painting inside and out. It's not really that big so it wont be a big deal painiting it. corian sounds nice but woods just easier for me.
Thanks
