Exactly 5/4" is 1¼".
The traditional way of expressing thickness of lumber is by quarters of an inch. So, 4/4 would be 1" thick, 5/4 would be 1¼" thick.
These dimensions are the dimensions of rough cut lumber. Just as a 2 x 4 is 2" by 4" rough, but 1½" by 3½" after planing, 5/4 would be 1¼" rough, but thiner after planing. The amount removed by planing is not as standardized as it is with construction lumber, but 5/4 generally finishes to about 1".
THANKS VERY MUCH WAYNEL5 FOR YOUR INFORMATION.
