i am making a wenge dining table for a client. we are looking for a no or low film finish my first thought was a few coats of wiped on original waterlox followed by a couple thin wiped on coats of gloss this resulted in a nice look. in my investagation i came across an article on a wenge finish in the spring 1996 issue of Home Furniture. the author used a marine finish called Deks Olje #1. I’m now in the process of doing a sample of that. this is a penatrating oil product that he burnishes after it is cured. the deks olje#1 can be topped with #2 which i think is a gloss varnish (which the author didn’t use) This made me think of the Daly product Seafin. and their varnish Profin. anybody have any experience with these products and wenge or any other ideas or opinions. thanks, Pat

Dub....have a client that is thinking of having a vanity and some closets made out of wenge. I too had planned to use Waterlok. Can you tell me more about Deks Olje #1...why would you pick it over Waterlok etc.?
Also, given that I'm planning on ordering less than 300bdft the best price I scouted on the web was for $12..were you able to find a better price?
Cheers
Alison
Alison, really the only reason i'm looking at other finishes is that i want to have as little finish as possible on the surface. i'm looking for an in the wood type finish but i am of the opinion that a danish oil does not provide enough to protect a dining table. i saw the deks olje in that article in Home Funiture, the author(Scott Schmidt) says that it is plenty durable for his table.. it is a marine finish so i just ordered a quart on-line from a boating supply i am in the process of doing a test right now, the article says to wait a couple weeks before burnishing. if you want i will let you know what i think of how it turns out. i like the idea of thin coats of varnish (waterlox) and it does have a very nice look i just always am loo.king for new ideasand i've never finished a wenge table. thanks, patrick
