hi folks, i am jointing and planing some 8/4 wenge. i’ve notice that the outer layers 1/32 to 1/16 have a darker more oiled look than the interior, i wrote this off as oxidation or some reaction during drying. but in some spots it seems to go deeper. The best way i can describe it is that it looks like some pores are bleeding oil. I don’t have a ton of experience with wenge but my understanding is that it is not an especially oily wood and i’ve not had problems with glue or finish adhesion in the past. I’ve used both titebond and west systems epoxy with success. the deeper i go in the wood the spots seem to lessen if not dissappear. so my questions are should i be treating wenge as a oily wood and only use epoxy? what about finishes?is this just an oxidation /drying reaction. or is something put on the wood in the drying or the shipping process? thanks.

Dub, I suspect the wood is just acclimating. Wenge is coarse textured and usually glues without much difficulty. If I were you, I'd sticker stack it and let it go for a month or so. You don't want it bubbling up under a finish.
