After reading the latest FWW on-line and on-paper, I decided to contact a couple of the sawyers to find some walnut crotch pieces for my desk/bookcase project. No luck.
Anyone with a lead on where I can find some figured walnut pieces for the panels and desk lid on Lonnie Birds’ project(fww154-6), please send a word. Thanks Dan

Hi Dan,
Check out our sawyer list again. I added a link to North Carolina Woodworker. Looks like they have a longer list of NC sawyers delineated by region.
Good luck finding the material you need.

Try here http://thinwood.com/home/species-walnut. He has just hauled into his mill the worlds largest walnut tree. It came in on two semi loads with some of the upper branches larger than 4 ft. in diameter. He has a lot of other wood there and will cut what you need. Hope this helps.

Try Hearne Hardwoods in Pennsylvania.
Those folks usually have some of the most fantastic looking pieces anywhere.
And for those special requests like yours, which are for larger pieces with spectacular figure....... just be sure that you have your extra-large credit card numbers at hand.

You might also try the Hardwood Store in Zebulon. Maybe look them up on the web or something. They have a few pieces of remarkable stuff usually - nothing like Hearne's -- but some stuff.

While on a visit to central Oregon I found Northwest Timber http://www.nwtinber.com and made a trip to their store. They gave us a tour of the place and the various wood sheds. Nice people, breath-taking wood. I bought a pair of bookmatched walnut boards that were shipped to the house (Texas) and waiting for me when I got home. Expensive, but I have seen and touched the quality of the stock.
