Hey everyone. Recently got a VFD for a 3phase semi jointer. Its an older F3a 12″. Where should I mount the actual VFD unit? I can’t put it on the wall.

Other than ensuring a rigid mounting (to minimize vibration will operating) and plenty of ambient cooling space, I haven't seen specific discussions on mounting - I went through this a few years ago while I was sourcing a phase-converter for my Felder equipment. Eventually, I decided on the Phase Perfect solution, rather than a VFD.
A final point is to ensure your equipment is OK with the individual line voltages... Felder and Martin do not recommend VFDs, as one of the 3 legs has increased voltage (277V vs. the nominal 220-240}.
I assume you've been through the phase sequencing material, and how to ensure phase alignment from the converter to the equipment-mains...
thanks for your reply. I did get the VFD all hooked up and machine is running fantastic. Its very hard to find any material or manuals on old SCMI machines. nearly impossible to even find a photo of a motor tag online. The guy i got the VFD from reccomened using an ammo box that has enough space around the vfd for air, or an electrical breaker box mounted right to the machine. not sure what route to go. I want it to look like its a part of the machine
I'm glad were able to get this operational... I sweated bullets when I first realized I needed 3-phase power. My guess is that the older machines are less fussy than the newer, more digitally electronic versions. The SCMIs are workhorses, and will outlive your grandchildren.
