I finally have the nerve to try veneer. I have read alot of the messages on the subject and have been very helpfull. I am starting with a simple band of mottled makore around my cherry desktop. I will be using sheet goods for the top. My local supplier offers cherry in either veneer core or fiber core. I would prefer to use the veneer core since it would be stiffer altough more expensive. Reason being this is actually an L-shaped workstation and am concerned about sagging. Any recommendations as to which to use? Is there a preferred glue for either? Also has anyone used the Titebond liquid hide glue?

Hi B:
I've used a variety of glues on a variety of substrates over the years and find Unibond 800 is about the easiest to work with. You mix it up, smear it on your substrate, lay on your veneer (taking advantage of a relatively long open time), and then clamp/press to secure.
http://www.vacupress.com will have most everything you need, including a very responsive forum.
However, I have used liquid hide glue successfully on small MDF panels up to ~12" X 12"
