For a veneer saw, 16 point. What is the consensus to resharpen with? I’m caught between a 4″ 2XSlim Taper or a Needle File for 15ppi and finer saws. Any preferences? Why?
Unrelated 2nd question.
What Length of saw in X-cut would you consider optimum for a small 22-24″ custom location toolbox. Considering getting on older 26 -28″ and and cutting it down. Maybe 16 -20″ ?
It’s for a future Son-in-Law who only knows Borg and I want to try to nudge him away from electro sharpened Borg tools and hand held power. Show him the light…walnut instead of Borg wet bunk 2x studs as it were.
Thanks

Just go with a 4 xx-slim. Why? Cheaper, readily available from a wide variety of sources and, most importantly, is a good size for 16 ppi teeth from a sharpening perspective.
If you want to go with the needle file, get the Grobet Joel sells.
Personally I would look for a vintage saw of the length you desire to end up with. The older, the better. Why? Thinner saw plate. A miter box saw of the 28" to 30" type has a really thick saw plate and simply makes an out-of-box sawing experience less enjoyable. However, if what you can find easily are miter box saws, get the oldest and shortest one you can because it will also have a relatively thinner plate than a longer, "newer" one.
Take care, Mike
Thanks Mike,I was hoping you would catch this one.
That's the needle I was wondering about. As to the other - great advise. I'll look for a good'un. Of course if it were for me, I would get one of your Half-Backs. But since he is only an "about to be" SNL - a cut down for now:-)Maybe, if he sees the light - a future MW for him.Boiler
Email me if you want. There might be something kicking around here...Mike
