Took the plunge and picked up the beaver 3800 jointer today–cost was a hundred bucks so I figured I couldn’t go too wrong. Got it home and had to re-wire the motor to 110v ( I don’t have 220 in the garage), changed the plug to fit the outlet, checked for square fence alignment and table settings, closed my eyes and hit the switch. What a great running machine! I am getting some snipe, even after making sure I put pressure on the outfeed side of the cutter, so if anyone has some tips-I would appreciate them. Other than that, everything seems to be in order and running fine.

Outfeed table is too low.
beaver 3800
yes the outfeed table is too low
i just finished restoring one of these beauties, the fence assembly is an amazing piece of engineering with all of its arms and concentric pieces, but way overkill compared to the rockwell 37-220 that replaced it
ive restored a number of beaver machines, including the jointer, beautifully engineered, well built, the 3300 bandsaw and 3200 tablesaw are pieces of art in aluminum castings
Restoring Beaver 3800 Jointer
I am a beginner woodworker and I picked up an Beaver 3800 Jointer 2 day ago and it is in great shape but runs like a dream. seller told me it has only been used approximatley 4 times in 10 years, so I want to clean it up change the drive belt etc; issue is i cannot figure out how to get belt of top pully and am wondering what is the best to clean up the cast area's as I do not want to damage the machine or the look.
