Just wanted to know has anyone tried their skills of building the router table out of the Finewoodworking Tools & Shops issue? If you have I would love to know how it came out. Thanks!

I built a great router table based on an article in Woodsmith Vol. 22/No131, page 6. It required some work, materials and time. It was well worth the effort, and I enjoyed the challenge.
A couple years ago I built a simple router table that folded up against the garage wall on a piano hing and fold down legs on wing nuts. I used a simple two by four clamped to the table at both ends with a rigged port for my little shop vac. Just push the board into the bit with one end lightly clamped for a zero clearance fit. If you don't have the time or space for the "Ultimate" this kind of set up was very handy and I wish I had taken the dang thing with me when I left that house. Unfortunately I have moved too often lately (~2years on average) to set about building a really good router table. Even so I think I might go back to that simple design soon just because it is easy to build and seemed to work really well. Main points are make sure the table is dead flat (Melamine beefed up is good for this) and make sure the fence is dead square. Make sure the table is big enough - I made mine about 2 foot square and I wish it was a little longer. If I rebuilt it now I would also put some kind of plastic insert plate for the router to be bolted onto.
