Can you successfully spray shellac with an HVLP turbine setup (orange peeling)? The reason i ask is some comments from a few pros on Woodweb that seem to indicate that anything with a solvent base is best done with a Spray gun/compressor combination as the air does not get heated. I’m not so sure about the wisdom of this as I have sprayed solvent based Polyurethane’s and varnish with reasonably good results but to date I have not tried Shellac. Anyone experienced at this. When the term solvent based finish is used, oil based varnishes aren't what is meant. The term refers to lacquer and finishes with fast drying solents similar to lacquer. Alcohol gets pretty close. I've never used a turbine so can't comment directly.
