Need to color some paste wax. Can I use the artist’s oil color (comes in a tube, linseed oil base)?

id be worried that the colors would smear. Artists oil paints feature is that they take ages to cure (no metallic driers). While miniscule, i think the ability to transfer colors would exist. Since the wax would dry and leave the linseed oil and suspended pigment as an oil i think it would be very very hard to truely buff out that wax. I dont know how well the oil based paint would even suspend itself in a wax.
Id lean towards powdered pigments like from Kremmer. Or even powdered aniline dyes.
You could always experiment before you finish your item.
Ahhhh, thank you Wm. Jeff's book says to use "pigments or oil-soluable dyes" -- I wasn't sure if the artists' oils would fall into the OSD category. What you are saying makes sense. I've got a week or two, so will either get the dye or order some dark wax. The only non-natural wax I have right now has a gross reddish tint to it.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
