I hope I can explain this clearly. I am building a small table with a curved front. The veneered top will have a 2″ solid wood edging. I need to create a template for the curved edge of the field that mates perfectly with the edging to create a matching joint. I seem to remember an article in FWW on this methodology but I can’t locate it now. Any advice would be appreciated.

That's a great technique. I'll keep that one in my memory.Rob Kress
It is a good one, I used it to joint the panels on the deck of this surfboard their 9ft long and matched fairly well.

John, Thanks. I try to search for this stuff but apparently I never use the right search words or parameters.

There was a methodology well described in Taunton's "Dining Tables" book by I think Kim Carelton Graves. After making one pattern, a specific pair of router bit and bushing were used to make an intermediate counter pattern. A second specific pair of bit and bushing used with the intermediate than made a perfect counter pattern to the original.
It worked very well when I needed to make hardwood edging for round and oval tables, but I don't know if the same approach would work for a curve that had both convex and concave portions.
Don,
Yes, I think that it would. I remember something like this in one of the FWW issues but for the life of me I can't locate it.
