Hi,
A few months ago I contacted you about finish for an apple tabletop, cherry bottom and using Waterlox. Well, as fate would have it, I finished sanding to 600 grit last Saturday, left it on a covered porch in indirect light to let it rest a few days, and discovered today, after five days, that the edge is cracking about 3/4 of an inch into the surface, not along a glue line. Should I put on the Waterlox before trying to repair with glue?
Thanks,
Shawn

Hi Shawn,
Are you planning on trying to glue and clamp the split? Something tells me it will probably happen again if not there then close by. It sounds like a stress crack to me.
You may consider using a low heat burn in stick to fill the crack. They are available at Homestead and Woodworkers Supply. If you do this get one that will match the lightest part of the wood. Otherwise it will stand out like a sore thumb.
If seasonal movement pushes it up at some point it easy enough to repair especially with a Waterlox finish.
Keep me posted.
Peter
