Sarge or anyone else that’s going to be IWF,
Any chance you can check out some of the new, yet to be announced cabinet saws from the likes of Steel City, Delta, and Powermatic for me? Even the new Grizzly stuff like their small sliders would be interesting. I’ve been wanting a new saw for about 6 months now. I’m really curious about the new American made Unisaw and what features it’ll have.
BTW: Pictures would be icing on the cake.

I will be glad to do so as I had intended to do just that as I always do. I won't be able to post on them until at least Wednesday or so though. Anything I have already seen or will see Tuesday on Dealer Day before the show opens is strictly... I No See.. I No Hear.. I No Tell as a courtesy between manufacturers to not spoil their "unveiling the first day the Show opens for the public.
But... yep....... I will do it as I just wrote it in my note-pad. BTW... I do have to work and will hopefully catch this stuff on Tuesday before the Show opens.. but if not I will catch it when I can during the Show. OK...
I can tell you Steel City has no new saws per se. But... they do have quite a few other surprises other than the TS's. heeeee.......

Sarge,
One other request to add to the other many you have:
I will be purchasing (soon) a minimax MM16 or MM20 bandsaw, unless you can report news that Steel City has unveiled a new saw with 16" (or plus) resaw height and 5 hp motor.
I'm also in the market for a mortising machine - between the Laguna platinum horiz. mortiser, the PM 719, or Sunhill's version of your Bridgewood (I realize that those are 3 totally different machines). That is, unless Steel City has something to offer other than the bench top machines I see currently.
So..... you won't have to leave your own booth to do my dirty work ;)
Thanks in advance,
Lee
Nope in both cases... the MM is a great saw as I had a deposit on one. But... after some soul searching I got the SC 18" as I don't need 16" re-saw. I am not a turner that might require that for small logs. So...
The PM is an excellent machine.. You just need to decide if you want to go horizonal or vertical. I will check out the Laguna as the Laguna booth is directly in front of the Steel City Booth. There equipment was at the Show in their space Wednesday.. but crated as they won't come in until today to set up so I didn't see the mortiser.
Good luck...

Sarge,I knew I could count on you for reconnaissance work at IWF! I wish I could have gone. As for trying to find out what's going to be released, it's amazing that there are no leaks or rumor sites to be found anywhere. It's not like there's a macrumors equivalent of woodworking machinery.
New releases and up-grades are kept under very tight wraps as I stated. When we finished setting up machines and had them spotted in the booth for the show... there was one or two that went into crates assembled so nobody notices over the week-end when the booth would be open but left un-attended. A courtesy between manufacturers and it gives the WW media a chance to be the first to scoop a new release.
Frankly... the folks setting up are so busy that you could care less about peeking around for new stuff. And I will add exhausted. When you have that many machines I learned how to spot.. hold and attach TS and planer wings without an assist. You are worn out physically at the end of the day (before actually) and don't have trouble sleeping.
This has been a great experience for me as I was not aware of all the hard work that goes into setting up and taking down so things are Show ready when the door opens to the public. I have much respect for the... shall we say "Woodworking Roadies" to borrow a phrase from the music business.

I don't know if you subscribe to FW's e-newsletters, but one story was on the new Unisaw. http://blogs.taunton.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?webtag=fw-editorsblog Sure looks intriguing.

Yeah, I saw the email right after I read the story and watched the video! For me, IWF suspense was like MacWorld announcements! The new Unisaw is quite intriguing, lot's of cool features and U.S. made to boot! Wondering if Powermatic has any announcements.
An 800 lb ~ $4,000 bandsaw!
Did anyone catch what the re-saw capacity of that thing is?
Lee
LB, IIRC it was 18x18" blade to frame and table to upper guides. This was from an E-news from Popular WW that also covered Jet, GI's new BS with a drill press post to move the table up and down using 93 to 102" blades, Byrd type replacements for lunch box planners, Grex 23 ga, 2"pin -2" air sander-trigger type air brush to fix finish in the field, Tite-bond CyA's for WW and the secret shop with Festool's magic work bench that has inserts for it's routers, Cs, etc., a sliding table and a vacuum table to hold even rough mill cut oak with the silent pump in a systainer and a video on the Delta TS.
Could it be that Pop WW had a bigger video budget than FWW?
Paddy- the informed.
edit, Jet is a 14" bs 12" resaw with no riser -that's the way the heavier casting is built.
also not every item was video -only most.

Can you post a link?
Thanks
The Uni-saw has been described about as well in the video as it can be. Black like a saw-stop (what a surprise) with a riving knife. I thought it has built on casters at first glance but today when I really went over it it doesn't. You have to use a Delta mobile base.
Both wheels in front with a dust chute. A drawer hanging under the end to the right extension table. I spoke with the Uni-saw man at Delta today and ask for the price point projected. He is not totally sure but hinted at least $2700-$2800, possibly more.
That's about it I suppose. Good saw.. big price as I personally don't get too excited anymore. :>)

I had to chuckle at the drawer myself. I like my drawer better, sits behind the saw against the wall and has all my blades in one spot. Vertical curfs not angled, that could be frustrating. Besides it gets in the way of my router extension table. OK if I could swing a sarge deal on one, I would ditch the drawer and modifiy it.
I chuckled at the new invention of the vent at the bottom. I do a similar thing on my cut off saw. I have a 4" DC line to the back and that connects to a catch basin mounted facing up to catch the dust that hits the back and falls down. I have a 2" hose that connnect to the saw dc port and just set the open end into the basin. Instant presto we have a split suction! Venturi effect works pretty darn nice, providing I turn the DC on..... ;>) <!----><!----><!---->

The drawer!!! One of the things that stood out on the Unisaw was the drawer. I really want my saw to have a router table extension, not a drawer. I can't imagine Delta releasing it without that option. A router table extension is huge for us with small shops!I think that I might like the Powermatic 2000 a little bit better, it's built in mobile base and router table option sure are nice. I like the Unifence concept though. Also, I wonder if there really are any advantages to having Marathon electric motor in the Unisaw over what's in the Powermatic 2000.
You're supposed to be excited about the drawer Azmo. When you are excited the plan is for you to run out and drop $2900 on the drawer and they throw in the saw. :>)
Oh well.. they should have put hand cut dove-tails on it and maybe you would have fallen for the marketing gimmick as a feature you had to have. hee......
Sarge
Your killin me Sarge! BAYG baby.
If I spent 2900 pesos on a drawer, my spouse wood have me at the shrink checking my phloem and xylem for a severe seperation! The last set of drawers I got excited by had the most exquiste set of matched tails, i mean dovetails you ever did see. My admiration has 34 years of marriage attached and I think to be on the safe side I'll leave those other dovetails alone, even if the saw is attached..;>)

I passed by the booth on my way to our booth this morning and stopped a moment to inspect the drawer just for you. What I discovered was obviously some modern high-tech joint that holds the MDF drawer sides together as I have never seen a drawer built that way. But I will add that I don't hang out at many cabinets shops.
They obviously put some craftsman-ship into that drawer for a high dollar saw as it was joined with lap joints at the end and no doubt some super high tech type of glue. The crafts-man used to much glue as it had squeezed out and had little glue drops around the joint mesh.
I'm guessing he did it on purpose as a personal signature to show his pride in his small portion of the over-all unit as a whole.
Not a bad idea though to lay off until your spouse visits her parents and then you can go get one. Just throw a camouflaged tarp over it to hide it after she gets back home.
Good luck with your new drawer.... :>)

I have not laughed this hard all week! Ifyoucantflooremwithfactsbafflemwithbullpucky. OK I kept pg 13....
Maybe Delta can attach one of those magic cloaks like in Lord of the Rings that makes whatever is underneath invisible.. Now that would be worth the 2900 rupies, sell the saw and keep the cloak!

What is the venturi effect and can it be used in a cabinet saw?Chris
Best example is a carburator. Large amount of airflow moving at a slow speed gets forced through a smaller opening which accelerates the airflow. A small pipe is placed into the air flow just past this restriction where a lower air pressure exists. Gas is pulled out of the pipe into this airflow.
Technically, I don't think the Delta saw is really a venturi by any means, just me interjecting some marketing hoopla with Sarge.... My hookup on my Makita miter saw is more similar.
I am not sure of your goal for your cabinet saw. Looking for a split air flow inside the cabinet? <!----><!----><!---->

Always looking for a way to improve dust collection!
I like sarges DC on top of the TS. Really works with rip blades to keep it out of your face! The overhead shroud and suction is a nice thing.
On your cabinet saw you might check for openings that don't need to be open for air flow. The more air that is pulled down and around the blade the better. In my case it is pretty much hopeless. The shrouds that cover the blades in some Cabinet saws are the hot ticket for this.
