This is an interesting article, I am for personal reasons leary of Monsanto's involvemment here but, oh well. I can see some potential for disaster as well as windfall here. I can see the genetic varieties pollenating with the natural trees and wiping out the strains that have proven reliable historically. I can also see several years down the road somebody cutting a stand of genetically engeneered trees and having them go to wrong end use. Picture some craftsman wanting to steam bend and veneer poplar that gets a batch of lignen reduced lumber, not good. THe scary part is that we may not know of any real negative impact for generations.
