Hi all,
I was wondering if any one has a favorite setup or brand of stile and rail bits? I was looking in my bosch book and I noticed that the bosch matched stile and rail bits are two peice, both cutters will come off of both bits, and can be replaced with a different style, i.e. ogee versus beading. This seems to really be a great setup because you can use the same arbors and slot cutters, and just order the other set of profile cutters from Bosch at a considerable savings over purchasing a whole other matched set. Does any one have experience with this set?
thanks,

I really don't think that you would want to switch out the profiles as you described. It is not as simple as you think. You have to reshim the set so they fit correctly. This can take hours as you have to make test cuts on both bits then add or remove spacers and repeat untill you are satisfied.
I like the CMT sets as they are a good value and they offer full size panel raisers. A lot of the others have smaller diameter panel bits and don't look as nice. If you are really going to use the heck out of them Whiteside is excellent but cost 40 to 60 more.

Hi Mike,
I wondered about reshimming, but I forgot to pose the question in my original post. The bosch bits look like quality bits, but I dont think any shims are included. What are the chances they will make a perfect joint out of the box? Like I said they seem like quality bits at 119.00 for the set at my Lowes'.
I am slowly building my woodworking capabilities. I have never used rail and stile bits before. I currrently have a shopmade router table with the Dewalt 621 mounted in it.
Thanks,
