Hi don’t post that often but thought I would put this one out to debate and see if I can pick someones brain
I have been asked to make a unit to store box files, not sure of US name for them, it has to be made in MDF and finished to match existing units, high gloss white.
As I don’t own a spray booth or equipment wonder if it is possible to use cans of car spray or is this a daft idea!
Would be most gratefull for any ideas/opinions
Cheers Gavin

Not completely daft, but you will have 2 big problems:
1. To get a high gloss finish you will need a spray area which is immaculately clean and which efficiently draws any overspray away from the work. This is not easy to achieve under any circumstances.
2. The cost of many cans of spray enamel will be so high as to become absurd. I don't know the size of the unit you're considering, but the cost of the spray cans could quite easily pay for a decent spray gun instead.
I'd suggest you look into having it finished by someone with the equipment and know-how.

Thanks ring
I was starting to think along those lines and I will have a word with the car sprayers down the alley from the shop on monday and see if they would be intrestedThey keep stable the fabric of the universe and their prayer is in the work of their hands
If alkyd-oil based paints are available to you, then you can achieve a high gloss finish with a brush.
But yes, spray paint in an aerosol can can be used.

Not sure about using a brush finish tried using normal white gloss(house paint) and even sanding down to 220 grit finish was still ropey I will try a few experiments with a spray can but I think ring is probably right and its a job best left to someone with a spray plant and the right skillsThey keep stable the fabric of the universe and their prayer is in the work of their hands
