I own a SICMO hvlp spray gun purchased years ago as part of Croix (now part of Graco) system. I have had good success over the years. However, after breaking down and reassembling the gun for cleaning, the trigger now is inoperative. Spray is erractic and even continues after trigger is released? Anyone have any suggestions? Am I missing a gasket or packing?
I haven’t been successful in locating a repair service in the Atlanta area.
Thanks for any suggestions.

First of all, I have no experience with a SICMO gun so I'm just speculating about possible causes.
On my Asturo ECO guns there is a small teflon bushing that sits in a concave recess behind a spring. This keeps tension on the needle and the bushing seals the orifice through which the needle exits. If I put that bushing in backwards it causes the needle to stick and the trigger will not operate normally.
Thanks, Woodman...I will check that possibility.
Dennis,
what do you mean when you say "the trigger is inoperative"?
Do you mean that 1) the needle (which is operated when you squeeze the trigger) does not go back or do you mean 2) the needle is right back and cannot be brought forward when you release the trigger? Is there a lot of slack in the trigger?
In either of those cases the needle runs through a packing or bushing which is tightened by a collar nut- you may have over tightened that nut.
Another scenario: the return spring for the needle- have you put it back correctly?
When you sat the spray is erratic this could be because the needle is not sliding freely in the packing.
If it continues spraying or dribbling after trigger release then it can be because the needle is moving back sluggishly- over tight packing or incorrect spring compression. Is the air valve shutting off when you release the trigger?
I suggest you take it apart, reclean and examine each part-then make sure you understand what each part does. Then re-assemble using something like Petroleum jelly for the threads, washers and packing. Check that the needle closes the jet fully, and that there is no dirt in the jet.
Philip, thanks for your insight. My "inoperative" trigger behaves like it has no control. In other words, spray continues after trigger is released. I will break the gun down and check the suggestions you made. I appreciate your comments.

Sounds like you tightened the packing nuts too tight.

I will back off and try again. Thanks for the suggestion, Jerry.
I forgot to mention to check and see if the air valve spring is in place.
