I am starting to make some windsor style chairs (2 years after taking Mike Dunbar’s course) and am in the process of finding suppliers for the spindle material. I have been advised that firewood dealers might be a good source but am wondering if anyone has had luck with them or someplace else???
Also, what is a good price for, say, a 14 inch diameter 5 foot log of ash or red oak??? I have no idea what price to negotiate around….
Thanks!

A felled tree is worth about 30 cents per bd.ft. ( white oak or ash, red oak is slihtly higher) that is per bd.ft. that a sawmill will realize. so considering waste I'd think you're looking at 15 to 20 bucks..
My sawmill will charge me 80 cents per bd. foot for white oak or ash and red oak is about ten cents higher right now.. (because I've bought a great deal of wood from them they'd most likely let me sort as things came off the sawmill, normally though it's mill run,, that is whatever comes off the log is what I get..
