I have been commissioned(as in ordered) by my wife to make her a cabinet for the kitchen. I live in Hattiesburg, MS and i can buy all the oak, poplar, pine, and maple I want. I cannot, however find a good source for furniture grade mahogany or cherry.
I would appreciate recommendations for a reliable sources for these two types of wood.

I found them on http://www.woodfinder.com and had planned to drive down there myself someday but have more lumber than I know what to do with right now due to some unusual finds.
Cheers, Ed
Thanks!
I have added the link to my favorites and will get in touch with them.
If you ever have the need to go, maybe we can link up and ride down together.
Cool
Roger that, Coolbreeze. I've got your e-mail from previous. Will drop you a line when going on a lumber buying expedition down to New Orleans.
I was talking to this dude about walnut at a flea market a few months ago (looking for old tools) and lo and behold he's got about a hundred fifty board foot of air-dried walnut that's been in his barn/ workshop for about thirty years and he's wanting to sell it. The funny thing was, when I went over to look at the lumber, he had this '57 Chevrolet convertible in his shop, in pretty good shape, ready to be restored to like-new. I couldn't decide what I wanted to look at the most - the wood or the car. And I think he might have sold that car if I'd made an offer. Got the walnut in my basement, now, still thinking about that car,...
Take care, Ed

I second that. Riverside lumber in New Orleans carries a huge supply of mahogany. Also, they let you climb around the stacks to pick out your boards. This is the reason I travel 6 hours to go there.
They also have a very good supply of cypress, poplar, ash, red oak, teak, and more exotics. They are hit and miss with cherry and walnut, though. Prices are reasonable.
You might try Jackson or Memphis, but I can't help you there.
Good luck,
Dan
If you wanted to waste a weekend you could take about a 4 hour drive to Memphis,TN. You can try either Colco in Memphis, TN or That Wood Joint in Bartlett, TN. The latter may not still be in open but they were, by far, the better stocked retailer. And they were nicer as well.

Better suggestion than you may think. My mother and brother live in Iuka, MS and I go up quite often. I also get over to the Memphis area from time to time.
I'm keeping a file on wood sources. Just added both.
Thanks
Try (http://www.bristolvalley.com/) Bristol Valley Hardwoods in upper NY state. They delivered a pretty good product and have used them to deliver cherry x 1 and maple x 1.
