Source for Freud Fusion blade in Canada
I’ve sold my old Craftsman table saw and will be replacing it with a cabinet saw equipped with a Biese splitter. This means that I probably will have little use for the thin kerf blades I previously used. I have been using mostly Freud TK blades for years and I’ve been happy with them. My rip blade is a 24-tooth flat grind Systematic that I intend to keep but I also need a good combination blade. I would prefer to try the new Fusion blade but I’ve been unable to find a source here in Canada. If Charles (or anyone else for that matter)is reading this and knows a Canadian source, maybe you could advise me as to who to contact up here? If I can’t find a Fusion, I will probably put a Forrest WWII full kerf on the new saw but I would like to give the Fusion a chance.
Regards,
Ron

Hi Ron,
I have been asking too and I have been told by Freud to expect the blade in May in Calgary.
Bob
Thanks for the info. Looks like it will have to be the Forrest blade.
Ron
A couple of ideas. One, Freud has made for a long time a blade comparable to the WWerII, the F410. I have their 50-tooth combo, not quite as nice, and it cuts like a dream, so I'll bet the 410 is pretty darned nice.
What Freud blades are you divesting yourself of?? Perhaps I could pick up a Fusion for you and we could figure out a swap?

Forestgirl,Thanks for the generous offer, but I've already purchased a combo blade from Ridge Carbide. We'll see how it works out, and if I'm not happy I'll make another run at getting the Fusion. You mentioned the F410 blade and I noticed that when I opened the link to the Fusion blade on the Freud site it came up with the F410 as the part number. Is this one and the same as the new Fusion?FWIW, the 2 Freud blades that are moving out with the old Craftsman are both 10" Freuk TK blades: The LU83 combo and the TK806 Ultra Crosscut. Both good blades, but neither will work with the Biese splitter I'll have on my new beast. Thanks again for the offer!Ron
OK, according to Freud's web site, the Fusion is the F410, but I seemed to remember from an earlier post by Charles that it had a different number. Have been trying the search function, but it's going at a snail's pace.

"...The model number's in one of the KNots threads somewhere."
P410 AFAIK. ;-)

I edited my post above. I seemed to remember that the Fusion had a new number, and Charles explained it somewhere, but the search function is so dad-blasted slow, I'm not going to be patient enough to find it tonight.
Jeeeeeez, I wish they could get it working right.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I will agree that the Search function on Knots is one of the slowest and least reliable I've encoutered on ANY forum site. On average, I would have as much luck trying to find something in a Hungarian encyclopedia, and I don't speak or read Hungarian! It surprises me because Taunton is generally not perceived to be a low-rent operation and this is definitely a bummer application that should be fixed.Regards,Ron
Matt Berger and the crew have been working on the search function recently, I think. (Actually, I was supposed to give them some feedback, but got so frustrted I couldn't even put it into words). I am hoping that's why it's slow right now, that it's in a state of flux while being improved? Doesn't make any sense, really, but it gives me peace, LOL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
FG, I just recieved my Freud Fusion P410. The "P410" is the number for their new blade. It has a number of advanded features not found on the prior--and still available--F410.Edit--I just went out and looked at my new blade. The packaging the blade both have "P410" printed on it. The Freud website has never been fully accurate or up to date on their products. It's not the best place to go to find out what's really real. Even their headline page is for the "Fusion" but then lists the number as "F410" not "P410".Howie.........

"The Freud website has never been fully accurate or up to date on their products." Boy, do I ever know that. When I first got interested in their Box Joint Cutter, I went there and searched for it by model number. The results came back null. Sheesh.
Thanks for the info on the Fusion model number. I'll try to remember (this is funny).forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I totally agree with you guys about their site, and have chatted with Charles about it. IIRC he agreed it could use some work too. That was probably 2 or 3 years ago and it's still pretty lame for one of the top blade manufacturers in the business. There's so much more they could and should do IMO. I think their blades are better than their website, but I also think they're missing a prime opportunity...just look at all the questions about blades that get posted around the web. Their site should easily address just about every possible question, but really falls short in many areas. DW's website has some good info, as does Oldham's, but none are "THE" place to go for blade info. LOL...Maybe we should contact Freud and have them put Charles in charge of the company so they could get some things done!

The Fusion has some unique design advantages with the Hi-ATB grind in a general purpose configuration. I'd love to try it too but haven't yet. I know the Forrest (or the F410 for that matter) are safe bets, in that both are a known entity, but if I were about the layout premium cash for a premium blade I'd be leaning heavily towards the Fusion. If you want something roughly comparable to the WWII to tide you over until the Fusion's available, you might try the DW7657, or Delta's new version the 36-7657...Lowe's carries it here - $40 USD.
You're not too far from border at Niagara Falls....too far to drive for a blade?
Niagara is approximately a 6 hour drive from Ottawa! But I've found a solution to my problem. I was speaking to a local contractor earlier today who specializes in high-end renovations, and he suggested that I give the Ridge Carbide TS2000 blade a trial run before I bought a Forrest. He's used both, and now says he will use nothing but the Ridge. If I don't like it, he said he would buy it from me for exactly what it cost me, no questions asked. I've ordered one directly from Ridge for $107, and it's being sent out today. I'll post a report after I've had a chance to put it through it's paces. Thanks,Ron
I didn't realize Ottawa was that far from NF! You'll likely really like the TS2000. Holbren's got them. I had the TS2000TK here for over a month. It's very comparable in design and quality to the Forrest, but has thicker carbide (+ ~ 35%) and is honed to 1200 grit. The Fusion is the P410 which replaces the F410 in Freud's Premier line. Enjoy!

Hello Ron...
Check out http://www.tegstools.com in Hamilton ON. They are advertising the Freud Fusion for 119.99 CDN. I presume they have it in stock.

They may have them, but I can't find them on their site. Their search function seems to work as well as the one we use here on Knots, and couldn't find a single saw blade. I may give them a call on Monday. Thanks for the keen eye! I've never heard of this company.Ron

Several times in the last couple of months, there have been Canadians looking for tool info at this and other forums. Maybe we could have a "Check in here, all Canadians" thread and get a good support group going. I always feel so bad when I post an Amazon link, and the poor recipient can't take advantage, LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Forestgirl,Amazon.ca is useful if one is ordering books or DVDs, but useless for tools. I'm a bit lucky, as I still have family down in WVa that I visit once or twice each year and I can get things shipped down there.I just took advantage of this to order an Hitachi 10" sliding chop miter saw for $299. Shipping was $4! I'll pick it up this summer and bring it back for my daughter. After completing her 4-year program in Women's Studies at Concordia University she has now decided that she is enrolling in a program to become a licensed carpenter and she's going to need tools. I'll keep the slider and give her my 12" Dewalt chop saw. Everybody will be happy!Amazon has been talking about expanding their Canadian operations but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for the concern!Ron

There is another forum out there that many of the Canadians hang out at... I usally go there first to avoid the Amazon, Jet, Powermatic, and Grizzly suggestions. Not that we don't appreciate the help. But don't feel to bad for us we get Tim Hortons Coffee, and can just drop in to a local Lee Valley store to pick things up!
What's the URL for the Canadian forum? It'd be handy to have.
Next time we go up to BC, I get a trip to Lee Valley, never been there before. I envy you if you have something better than the ubiquitous Starbucks, which may be (IMHO) the worst coffee in the world! forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Tim Hortons is a donught shop, that sells great coffee. Just normal coffee... and Ice Caps... but that's about it. It's a true Canadian company... they even opened one in Afganistan for the troops stationed there!
This time of year they have a Roll Up the Rim contest that's super popular. Which brings us to to the Lee Valley Tim Hortons connection. The roll up contest has been going on for years. This year some inventor out east created a little platsic thing that will cut the rim and roll it up. Lee Valley is the only place in Canada that is carrying them...
Anyway, I'm way off topic here.
just checked out the rimroller on the LV site. if i order tonight it should be here by thursday, so come firday morning i will know in no time that i have again won nothing! (to date 18 large double-doubles and only ONE doughnut. at least the coffee is good)

I only discovered Tegs tools recently myself. I have not ordered anything from them so can't comment on their customer service, etc.. Please let ms know if you are able to get the blade from Tegs.
I am also in the Ottawa area.
Cheers,

I drove up to Canada back when the exchange rate was favorable and bought a GI contractor saw from Teg's in early 2002. It looks like Gabe is still the manager! They were great to me....Gabe actually drove out of town to another GI dealer to make sure he had a saw available when I got there.
I was at the Kitchener woodshow this past weekend and they were demonstrating the Fusion blade. They threw everything at it hard maple pine laminates etc. with a bosch table top saw without the zero clearance insert. The cuts were clean n crisp.
They stated that it was not on the market in all areas yet but if you ask your supplier they can order it with an approx 10-16 day delivery. They were being sold for $40 at the show MSRP is $89 if i recall correctly. Could be worth the wait to order one if your not in a hurry to have one.
