Just a few of the “toys” I have in the shop. Some old, hand-me-downs, some hand-make. See how many you can identify.

Image number 4 is quite the looker, but....I don't know......it needs..... something..... Racing stripes, a fireball of flames, a gaping great white shark's mouth with blood dripping from the razor sharp teeth, a baleful dragon eye.....there should be more. It needs something to tie it all together.... I couldn't really be happy planing with it until you got the aesthetics right.
Picture #4
A liberty bell from stanley. I'm working on getting a new tote made for it. The rest of the marks on there.... think of it as "Camo"
White fang,
You ought to post these over on the Brese plane thread.
Is the butt-chisel-rabbet-plane's plastic handle cryogenically treated?
Are the red white and blue smoothers daily users, or do you just pull them out on Independence Day?
Is the mouth of the plane in the last photo as prone to choking as it would seem to be?

Chisel plane
is a home-made jobby. The chisel was in the tool box, so, I now have a 1/2" wide chisel plane for dado cleaning. Old Red is from Great Neck, not really much except for rough work. Blue is an old Stanley( maybe?) that a prior owner had painted blue, as a piece of artwork, of all things. Cleaned it up, and now it's main job is tapering table legs and such. The last one.. not really, the mouth itself is very small. Any shavings just curl around in the open area and fall out. Also a home-made item.
I just posted..
a few shots over on that thread. Something about a Mazda in amongst all the Ferraris. Might get some interest.
Those are my kind of tools...
I love um. They have the look of honest work being done. I think we ought to start a movement, or at least a vocal lobby for homely tools that get the job done. You ought to start a web site and do a type study or something.
