Ran across some free CAD stuff this morning at freecad.com
The demo version of AlleyCAD might be a good bet. It’s a 2D program. There’s also a translation program called Crossroads 3D. I didn’t look beyond page 1. You guys can explore and LMK 🙂

Look at the ratings. This is dead in the water.

On all of them, or just that one program. I didn't really look around that much. Just posted for those who might find it interesting.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Just on the one program. Possible hi score of 10, scored 1.73. Most common type comments were "Very hard program to learn" and the biggie "they want $614.00 for a free program". Not sure what they meant by that last one, but the scorer was VERY wound tight. May not really be free. After looking at that one I scooted on.
I was hoping for something simple, as I have not figured out the 2 CAD programs that I have now. Just doesn't root in the brain well.....lol
Oh well I found a new 60-30 triangle the other day to replace the one I broke a couple of months ago. My drafting table and square still works fine...

Have you tried the painful step-by-step approach with your CAD programs? Working your way through the tutorials one chapter at a time? I'm fairly convinced that for first-timers, it's the most likely method to succeed. The basic approach of CAD is foreign to many of us, and my guess is that the beginning part of the learning curve is pretty tough. But should get much easier after the "light" goes on!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

Jamie,
That's WAY to logical! lol
For me, it's been tough trying to transition to DesignCAD, although I'd really like to use its capabilities. I've used a simple, 2D program that I learned in an office environment -- Visio. I've spent many hours doing as you said: start at page one and go a page at a time. But, then I need to whip out a drawing of something and revert to my comfort zone. Maybe someday these old brain cells will absorb enough data to become proficient in DesignCAD.
