I think Sketchup will change the way we work. What you think? I would give pdf plans less than 3 years of “useful life” in the woodworking and fine homebuilding world. Sketchup is so easy to use, allowing you to adapt plans and add your own value. Sketchup component libraries will become essential shop tools for many woodworkers, artisans and builders, and likely become essential to marketing of products like fasteners, drawer handles, hinges, commercial lumber, plywood, etc. Do you think that Taunton will take a leadership role in this area?

As someone who has used sketcup and tried to learn autocad, I don't know that it will fully replace everything. There is still a learning curve and somethings it's just plain easier to draw out on graph paper and get to it. I do like it though. Now if google would just buy cutlist and make that free life would be a blast.
I use Sketch Up too, and am becoming quicker.
I use it mostly to do rendering for clients and not so much to figure dimensions or work out a cut list because I can do that much quicker with a pen and paper.
If I were more computer literate I suppose I could get more out of Sketch Up than I do.
Overall though I think it’s a great program! So two thumbs up from me!

Sketchup and other cad programs are changing the way a lot of designers work. But don't you think its a stretch to expect a designer who publishes his work to build in an easy way for someone to modify his work? I mean, designers are already having their work ripped off. Why should they make it any easier?
In any case... the publishing of plans in sketchup won't change the way I work. I don't use other's plans.
