Does anyone have what they consider to be the best tutorial for using sketch UP to design lathe projects?
Looking for books, hands on workshops and instructional videos for the n newbie
Also, is it recommended to upgrade to the Pro edition?
Thanks

Did you look here: https://www.finewoodworking.com/blog/design-click-build
What sort of lathe projects do you want to design? Are you just looking to create patterns/templates to follow when turning?
For what you want, I doubt you'll need to upgrade to SketchUp Pro.
Dave:I usually turn free hand without much game plan othe than bowl or vase. On the other hand I do occasionally sketch a design with paper and pencil. My intention is to create a 3-D model that I can make variations in dimension and ratio: height, width, foot size, steep curve, narrow curve, complex curve.
I know I have to devote some time to playing with the software and self teaching....I'm somewhat impatient.
Thanks for the info

Rich,As far as using SketchUp for that, I think you'll find things fairly straightforward. Maybe I can work up a blog entry illustrating how I would go about using SketchUp to do a turning. Might even get it done this evening if I don't have too much snow to shovel when I get home.
