I am going to prepare 2 Lb cut shellac to finish my small cherry cabinet, I have the opportunity to utilize pure isopropyl alchool (IPA)rather than denatured ethyl alcool. I am wondering if I can utilize IPA as well, or there is any concern about. I never tried this different solvent. I would appreciate any suggestion and/or recommendation. Stefano

Hi Bob, thank you for your answer. It looks like I can utilize IPA, I can get it highly pure, without water, while my denatured alchool would be lower grade. Stefano
Isopropanol will work as a shellac solvent, with a slower evaporation time than ethanol, and particularly methanol. The only question is finding isopropanol that doesn't contain lots of water.
Hi Steve, thank you I can say that IPA I can utilize is purer then denatured alchool. I have to say that my first coats have been applied using denatured alchool, but now I would like to utilize IPA because it is better than the older one. Stefano
