Three part question:
- Once upon a time, I recall reading a FWW article about plastics – edition #? (I have FWW back to about #70)
- Who sells small quantities of sheet plastic? (I have plywood sheets stored on 8 ft. edge supported on three 2x4s)
- What plastic type and thickness is recommended?
(I thought of getting rollers, but maybe the point loads would create kinks in the plywood edge?)

OK, I give up... Give me a hint. What do you want the plastic for? Is it to replace a piece of glass? Do you need something structural? Bulletproof?? Clear?? Translucent?? Opaque?? If you're using plastic to make a push-stick, I'd use lexan and NOT Plexiglass because plexi can be brittle like glass. If you want to replace a piece of glass, I'd use plexi as Lexan is not all that clear. So.... bottom like.... what do you want to use 'plastic' for?
As for suppliers, Home Depot, Lowes, your local hardware store, McMaster... there are loads of suppliers, it all depends on what you want or need, and in what size. Thickness available from 1/16 inch to 2 or 3 inches thick.

I'm looking for plastic thats slippery and won't abade easily. I store sheet goods on edge atop three 2x6's(to keep off the basement floor) in a narrow space behind a lumber rack. I'd like for them to slide out easier, without damaging the long 8' edge.
You might look for a TAP Plastics near you. They sell plastics of various types, including sheets of various thicknesses up to 4'x8' sheets, some of which are scuff resistant.
Dave, I would choose Lexan myself. Very durable plastic and your local home repo should have some. They use thick sheets for bed liners in large scale rock hauling trucks. Steel dents and gives in but lexan does not. Of course it is always easier to get your helper to fetch the sheets regardless ;>)
You are looking for UHMW (ultra high molecular weight nylon). Sorry, I don't have a source since Ray's harness shop closed.
Dave, I have a similar setup for storing my plywood. To answer your questions:
I bought my plastic (UHMW - Ultra High Molecular Weight) from Eagle America. They call the material "Slick Strips or Plates". - http://www.EagleAmerica.com; phone - 1-800-872-2511.
The stuff you would be interested in is 4" x 36" in thicknesses - 1/4", 1/2" & 3/4". I would recommend using a stiff substrate of hardwood or plywood (cheaper that the UHMW) and less liable to bend between you 2-bys. I don't know your span. If you want less than the 4" width, the stuff machines easily; the chips look like Ivory Flake soap.
I built a cheap tip-out rack that is very helpful.
